Workshop for investigative judges from all governorates of Iraq
Date:
UNWomen conducted a two-day workshop for investigative judges from all governorates of Iraq, in which 32 judges participated. The workshop aimed at highlighting the importance of implementing legal procedures in reducing violence against women and raising awareness on the increasing numbers of gender-based violence cases during conflicts and the covid-19 pandemic. International covenants related to human and women's rights were also discussed. In addition, the discussions included the challenges facing the judicial system and the needs that must be met in order to achieve an appropriate response to survivors of gender-based violence. As a result, recommendations were concluded regarding services for survivors of gender-based and domestic violence, and the legal procedures that need to be applied by health and legal service providers. This workshop was done under project “Gender-responsive Management and Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic in Iraq: From Emergency Response to Recovery and Resilience” funded by the Government_of_Japan.
