Several pastry training courses were held at two women shelters in Erbil and Suleimaniyah Governorates in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) recently.

Organised by KRI’s Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the courses were held as part of the project “Strengthening the resilience of Syrian women and girls and host communities,” which is supported by UN Women and the European Trust Fund “Madad”.

The project aims to provide high quality services to gender-based violence survivors staying at four women shelters in KRI. In addition to training activities to survivors, staff and security forces, the project supports services such as psychological counselling, legal aid and referrals.

A total of 45 women and girls staying at the shelters benefited from the pastry-making courses, according to officials at the shelters.

The officials said the courses had a positive impact on the beneficiaries, noting that they were intended to provide them with some skills that they can use to be able to generate their own incomes in the future.
